US had slaves, most of whom were from Africa, and for the most part were black. So that was some discrimination right there. Once we’d got rid of slavery in the 1800s, there was still discrimination. Until the 1960s. Isn’t that crazy? Get this, the Voting Rights Act of 1965 was a year after the Civil Rights Act, and had to be put in place to force some Southern States from enforcing literacy requirements on voters as a way to prevent the black vote.
