Abe Lincoln – a Mighty Fine Man

So what did Abraham Lincoln do? He was a pretty busy chap by all accounts, not least due to his penchant for extremely tall hats – not particularly relevant since he was already 6 feet 4 inches tall. He didn’t live a long time – pretty par for the 1800s course really – managing to make it to 56 years oldĀ  before being gunned down by an actor.

He did all manner of things, but despite being a lawyer, he was pretty popular – especially with the 4 million slaves that he freed.

What in US History was the Emancipation Proclamation?

Another great chapter of US Civic history was written in the 1800s in the Emancipation Proclamation. It freed the slaves – it was an order by big Abe Lincoln to the army during the Civil War on the first day of 1863.
